Meet Our Pastor- Brad Schutt
Hello Friends,
Thank you for taking the time to explore our church’s website and for making your way down here to learn more about me, Pastor Brad. I was born and raised outside of Millsboro, DE; starting in Long Neck and then moving into the house my parents still live in on Route 30 closer to town. I have been a United Methodist my whole life, starting at Long Neck United Methodist Church and moving to Newark United Methodist Church in college before beginning my ministry career. I graduated from Sussex Central High School in 2005, moved up to the University of Delaware and graduated from there in 2008 with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, and then graduated from Lancaster Theological Seminary in Lancaster, PA with a Master of Divinity in 2011.
Union Church is the fourth congregation I’ve been blessed to serve in ten years of pastoral ministry. My first appointment was as a student pastor during my last year of seminary, serving First United Methodist Church in Secretary, MD. Next, I served First United Methodist Church in Pottsville, PA for almost five years and was commissioned as a Provisional Elder in our denomination in 2015. Our family returned to Delaware and I served Millville United Methodist Church in Millville, DE for another five years, which included my being ordained an Elder in the UMC in 2019. Our entire family, including my wife Erin and our two daughters, Emma and Brynn, are excited to begin a new chapter in life and ministry here in Bridgeville.
Erin and I have known each other for 13 years and celebrated our 10 year wedding anniversary in 2020. We met as Resident Assistants in neighboring freshmen complexes at the University of Delaware and were married at her home church, Wyoming UMC in Dover, DE, just over two weeks before I started at First UMC in Secretary. While living in Pennsylvania we were blessed with our children, Emma in 2013 and Brynn in 2015. We quickly realized that with two small children we needed all the help we could get and were able to move back to Delaware to be closer to family and friends. God was with us since Erin was able to secure a position at Delaware Technical Community College within a month of Brynn’s birth as our Bishop facilitated my returning to the Peninsula-Delaware Annual Conference.
In ministry I would say that my greatest passions are teaching and small group ministry, especially when they can connect the church to the community, or at least enable us to bring our faith into the world around us. Along with those, another passion of mine is using technology to enhance the life of the church and to bring spiritual formation to those who cannot, or feel unable, to step foot in any church. In my personal life my biggest hobbies are reading books (mainly science fiction and comedy), comic book collecting, watching movies, and listening to music.
Well, that’s me in a few paragraphs. I would love to meet and get to know you next!
In Peace,
     Pastor Brad
