Meet Our Pastor- Rev. Bradley Schutt

Hello Friends,

Thank you for taking the time to explore our church’s website and wanting to get to know our church, and me, more closely. I was born and raised outside of Millsboro, DE; starting in Long Neck and then moving into the house my parents still live in on Route 30 closer to town. I have been a United Methodist my whole life, starting at Long Neck United Methodist Church and moving to Newark United Methodist Church in college before beginning my ministry career. I graduated from Sussex Central High School in 2005, moved up to the University of Delaware and graduated from there in 2008 with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, and then graduated from Lancaster Theological Seminary in Lancaster, PA with a Master of Divinity in 2011.

Union Church is the fourth congregation I’ve been blessed to serve in ten years of pastoral ministry. My first appointment was as a student pastor during my last year of seminary, serving First United Methodist Church in Secretary, MD. Next, I served First United Methodist Church in Pottsville, PA for almost five years and was commissioned as a Provisional Elder in our denomination in 2015. Our family returned to Delaware and I served Millville United Methodist Church in Millville, DE for another five years, which included my being ordained an Elder in the UMC in 2019.

In ministry I would say that my greatest passions are teaching and small group ministry, especially when they can connect the church to the community, or at least enable us to bring our faith into the world around us. Along with those, another passion of mine is using technology to enhance the life of the church and to bring spiritual formation to those who cannot, or feel unable, to step foot in any church. In my personal life my biggest hobbies are reading books (mainly science fiction and comedy), comic book collecting, watching movies, and listening to music. My two daughters, Brynn and Emma, continue to love being in Bridgeville and being a part of Union Church.

That’s me in a few paragraphs. I would love to get to know you next!

In Peace,
     Pastor Brad
